". . . and he said For now the Lord hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land." Genesis 26:22b
On September 5, 2001, Elder Rodger Taylor, through Spirit and Life Ministries launched Bible Enrichment Sessions at the Herman Park Center. The purpose of these sessions was to teach the word of God for the enlightenment of those who had a desire to know more about God and how to live a rich life in Him. Classes were held for adults and children. Shortly thereafter, on October 7, 2001 Philadelphia Community Church was birthed by the leading of the Holy Spirit and the favor of God. Services were held at the Hampton Inn on Spence Avenue, here in Goldsboro. On the first day of services the room was filled to capacity.
The first members were received into the church including, Sister Joyce Jacobs, Amber Jacobs, Brother John Williams and Sister Rachelle Williams. God was truly pleased as Pastor Taylor stepped out to pursue the fulfillment of all that God had shown him for his season. During our stay at the Hampton Inn souls were saved, many were delivered and their health was reclaimed. "Worshiping in a more excellent way" became our anchor, as we sang praises, worshipped in the Spirit and received the powerful teaching and preaching of God's servant.
In March of 2002, we were blessed to acquire more appropriate accommodations at 1503 Wayne Memorial Drive. God sent people into the ministry who had a mind to work; some veterans of the faith, some babes, some rejoicing, some weeping, but all seeking a refuge and a haven in Christ, hungry for the words of life. And we have been fed as Pastor Taylor has taught on Evangelism, Discipleship, God's Amazing Grace, Character, Unity and more, showing us the more excellent way to an intimate relationship with Christ. PCC has grown to be a church filled with love and concern for all. Every soul is precious as those that partner must take on the spirit of compassion adopted by our Pastor.
Early in 2004, a search began for a site to construct the first building of what would be "A Campus for Jesus". After considering several sites, 8 acres were purchased at the corner of Tommy's Road and Hare Road. Through the faithfulness and sacrificial giving of the partners of PCC, construction was begun on the new Sanctuary December 2006. The first service was held on July 1, 2007. It seemed almost unbelievable as we worshipped and gave God the praise for the mighty work He had wrought on our behalf.
As it is the vision of Pastor Taylor to propagate the gospel by all means, whether visual, verbal or written, Philadelphia Community Church not only serves from within its walls, it reaches out to the community. Through available media outlets, personal witness and generous donations to community concerns, we strive to reach the total man (soul, mind, body and spirit). All of these undertakings are made possible by the unity of the people of God here at PCC. From our foundational scripture, Revelation 3:7,8 are the words "I know thy works: behold I set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it:" The door is open for Philadelphia Community Church, the church of brotherly love, and no man can shut it. And so as we look back at a season of past victories, we also look forward as we press on to do the bidding of our Lord under the leadership of God’s true servants—Prophet Rodger and Pastor Aletta Taylor.
